Ms. Jan Rebel

Science Teacher

Science is my love. This is my 18th year teaching. I taught fifth grade and sixth grade language arts, math and science at Marbut Traditional Theme School in DeKalb County. As a science teacher, at Duluth Middle school from 2003-2015, I taught sixth, seventh and eighth grade; gifted, regular education and science enrichment. I became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2003. I have my Masters of Education in Middle School education, a Specialist Degree in Science and certified in gifted, ELL, and high school science education. My three children Kristi, Rob, and Courtney all majored in science and working in science related professions. My oldest daughter Kristi is Patent Manager at Emory University, my son Rob is an Environmental Engineer, and my youngest daughter Courtney majored in Kinesiology, just had my first grandchild in February. Courtney decided to take time off from her career as Spa and Fitness Director at Congressional Country Club, Bethesda Maryland to enjoy all the “firsts” during Koa’s young life. I am honored to be a charter staff member at Coleman Middle School. This is my dream job. I always taught science through project based learning. My philosophy of teaching is summed up by Confucius “I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.”
