Ms. Chandra Brandel

Math Teacher

My name is Chandra Brandel, and I am looking forward to teaching 6th grade Mathematics at Coleman Middle this year. This is my 11th year working for Gwinnett County Public Schools. Before joining the faculty at Coleman Middle, I worked at Duluth Middle, Hull Middle, and Sugar Hill Elementary. Teaching is a second career for me. After obtaining my undergraduate degree in banking and finance from Mississippi State University, I spent nearly a decade in the banking industry primarily working in the marketing department. My first job in Georgia was at the former Citizen’s Bank of Duluth on Buford Highway. I entered the teaching profession after my children were born. I taught preschool students at Rock Springs UMC Preschool and Christian Beginnings at Duluth UMC for three years. From there, I had the opportunity to be on staff at Sugar Hill ES as a paraprofessional working with students in grades K-5 who were served in the autism program. During that time, I pursued my master’s degree in secondary education from Grand Canyon University which led to my current position as a teacher. My teaching experience has involved supporting 6th-8th grade students with autism in their general education classes and directly teaching their social skills classes. I am familiar with the middle school curriculum and have co-taught and supported students in several 6th grade math classes over the past 6 years. I also have continued my education by participating in the gifted endorsement program and recently added my ESOL certification. I have 2 sons, Thomas and Wilson. Wilson is attending college at Georgia Tech where he is majoring in industrial & systems engineering. He is also a cheerleader for Tech. Thomas is a junior at Lanier High School and is doing dual enrollment at Georgia Gwinnett College. In my free time, I enjoy home remodeling, watching college football (Go Dawgs! and Go Jackets!), cooking, and spending time with my family and friends.
